Pen_in_HandEveryone has a story. Whether yours is about your own life or someone else’s, you’ve witnessed or experienced life lessons that others could benefit from hearing about. So many times, potential writers stop at the “idea” of a book because the task at hand – actually composing a full-length book — seems too daunting. These people aren’t “writers,” in the classical sense of the word, and so they don’t take the time to learn to be writers. Instead, they let their ideas, and their very important message, fade away because they just can’t imagine how they might make the time to put that message to paper.

Your message doesn’t have to die just because you’ve never written a book before. If you’ve lived at all, you have a book inside of you. You have two choices; you can increase your commitment to meet your dream or you have to decrease the size of your dream to meet your commitment. Don’t cheat others out of hearing your important message because you refuse to commit.

Start by simply writing. Write emails, write journal entries, write blog entries, write Facebook status updates – just write so that you can begin to see your heart’s message. Make it a daily discipline and stick to it. What do you write about most? What are you most passionate about? What seems to define you? What lessons have you learned that others could benefit from hearing? What special knowledge to you possess that others need to know?

After you start simply practicing the discipline of writing, evaluate your writing and pinpoint your life’s message. Once you know your message, take time to sculpt and define it by writing some more specifically about it. Run with that message and begin putting it all to paper.

It might not take as long as you think.

The average size of the book we publish at Good Book Publishing is about 100 single-spaced Word Doc pages. If you wrote three pages per day for 33 days, you’d have written an entire 100-page book by the end of the month! And if you’ve been practicing the discipline of writing during your exploratory period, this should take you no time at all!

Don’t worry about grammar or perfect prose. Once your thoughts and ideas are down on paper, we can help perfect them. Our editors are trained and skilled at polishing your words and making them shine. You hand us the sand; we’ll return you the pearl.

Start your book today – because you never know who might be waiting on the other end of your obedience to be blessed.
